Mr. Howiedi exposes the Taliban movement for what it is, not
a group of Isslamic clerics and thinkers but rather a gang of
opportunists who used religion to attain political power. What could
be more revelaing than a twenty year old who has not even completed
his relgious education being appointed to the position of director
of health services in the Jallalabad province? The quick collapse of
the Taliban has demonstarated that people hate despotic rulers even
if they rule under the banner of religion. Religion has the main
objective of liberatring individuals and socities not of shackling
their lives and inhibiting their creativity. It is unfortunate that
the taliban have not learned anythign from the great achivements of
Islamic civilizations.

لللأحداث الجارية كما يناول لعبة الأمم ودور الجيران والقوى العظمى
التى لا تبغى كلها غير مصالحها على حساب الشعووب شكرا لللأستاذ هويدى

Mr. Howiedi'ss narrative is exciting and profound. This book
illustrates the multi ethinic multi lingual patchwork of peoples
that is Afghanistan. But it also gives a vivid description of day to
day life under the Taliban. I can almost visualize a trip on apick
up truck acrosss the vast expanse of the Afghani desert with the
highest mountain range in the world in the background and refugee
camps and destroyed tanks along the sides of the non existent road.
The market scenes and the ruins of hotels present a living contrast
, a tribute to Afghan reality.

استمتعت كثيرا بالحوارات الدينية التي اجراها السيد هويدي مع ملالي
الطالبان، حيث اعتبرها تمثل نقطة التماس بين الاسلام المستنير
والمتطرفين، فالأستاذ هويدي لا يحاورهم من منظور علماني انما يستند الى
القرآن والسنة والشريعة، قاذا كان الاسلام جزءا لا يتجزأ من ثقافتنا
وتاريخنا وحاضرنا، فهو بلا شك جزء لا يتجزأ من مستقبلنا وأملنا في
تحقيق التقدم والازدهار مقترن بقد\رة الاسلام المستنير على الوصول الى
الناس وقدرته على التغلب على الافكار المتطرفة

اضافة الى المحتوى الجيد اعجبت كثيرا بالوصف الروائى الجميل الذى يصور
به الأستاذ فهمى هويدى لتفاصيل الحياة فى أفغانستان مثل الفندق الوحيد
فى كابول والذى يتكون غالبية نزلائه من الجواسيس وقصور تجار الهيروين
وكيفية خصوله على تأشيرة دخول البلاد ومشهد الأسواق بالذباب والجندى
الذى نهش الصبية بعصا طويلة والسلاح الذى يباع الى جوار المأكولات فقد
نجح الأستاذ هويدى ان يضيف الى دراسته المتعمقة للواقع الأفغانى بعد
المغامرة المشوقة المسلية

مع اعجابى الشديد بكتاب الأستاذ فهمى هويدى وشكرى للمنتدى على هذا
الاختيار الموفق لكتاب شهر ديسمبر 2001، فأننى قد شعرت بأن الأستاذ
هويدى لم يولى ما فعله الطالبان تجاه المرأة الاهتمام الكافى، فإنكار
حق المرأة فى التعليم والعمل واعتبارها شخص غير مسئول لا يعاقب على
أخطئه بل يعاقب عليها ولى أمره هو جريمة بحق الكلمة، لأن هذا الموقف
يحاول القضاء على كافة حقوق المرأة، ولا يوجد ما يمكن أن يقوله الأستاذ
فهمى هويدى لتبرير ذلك باستثناء كلمة التخلف، وان كنت اتفق فيما ساقه
من أ، حركة الطالبان لم تنشأ من فراغ وانما جاءت لتطبيق فكر قائم
وموروث بشكل مبالغ فيه ويجب ألا ننسى من ان ما فعله الطالبان لا يختلف
كثيرا عما يطالب به الكثير من التيارات الاسلامية

I abhore the ideology of the Taliban regarding the status of
women. Who do they think they are? Women do not need men to grant
them their rights. These rights are their legitimate claim as human
beings and anyone who tries to usurp them is only hindering the
development of their society . In another vein how stupid can you
get to prohibit the agriculture of hasheesh while allowing the
planting of opium?

اتفق مع الأستاذ فهمي هويدي فى نقده لحركة الطالبان من حيث تركيزها على
القشور و على الممارسات الدينية السطحية وإغفالها في الوقت نفسه
المشاكل الجوهرية التي تواجهها أفغانستان ، إلا ان الطالبان ليست في
واقع الأمر سوى وجه مبالغ فيه و كاريكاتور
للغالبية العظمى من الحركات الاسلامية المعاصرة، بل يمكنني القول
بأن حركة الطالبان ليست سوى مرآة مجسمة لحالة التدهور الفكري التي
يعيشه المسلمون

نشكر المنتدى على هذا الاختيار المووفق فكتاب الأستاذ فهمى هويدى يلقى
كثير من الضوء على تطورات الوضع فى اغانستان وقد لفت نظظرى المقارنة
التى يحرص الاستاذ هويدى على عقدها بين ممارسات الطالبان وممارسات بعض
الأنظمة العربية ، والشئ الذى يحزننى كثيرا اننا نقارن دائما بين السيئ
والأسوأ أليس هذا أكبر علامة على تخلفنا الحضارى؟

يفند الأستاذ فهمي هويدي في كتابه الادعاءات الغربية على امارة
الطالبان حيث يكشف ما تتسم به من زيف ونفاق ، ففي حين هب الغرب للدفاع
عن تماثيل بوذا لم يتحرك له ساعدا حين دمرت المساجد الاسلامية الأثرية
في كشمير والبوسنة ولم نسمع منه اي اعتراض على الحركات اليهودية
المتطرفة التي تجمع الأموال في الجهر والعلن من اجل تدمير المسجد
الأقصى. كما يتناول الأستاذ هويدي بالشرح والتوضيح لأسباب القرارات
التي اتخذها الطالبان واتسمت بقدر من المبالغة ويوضح دعاويها كما يؤكد
بلا ريب ان مثل هذه المبالغات والشطحات لا تعبر عن الاسلام في شئ
وأعتقد ان العداء الكبير الذي ناصبه الغرب لحركة طالبان ولتجربتهم
الرامية الى انشاء امارة اسلامية لا ترجع الى غيرة امريكا واوربا على
حقوق الشعب الأفغاني والذي لم تحرك ساعدا لاغاثته وانما ترجع الى عداء
متأصل للإسلام

In this short opinionated survey alluding to two centuries of
Afghani history, Fahmi Howeidi, a most distinguished commentator,
gives the general readers what they have long needed: a single
narrative that tries to explain the background to the terrible
events on our television screens. Accepting its limitations, this is
a book about the Taliban and of the processes that made them of such
violent reputation. A world dissected from the inside with a sharp
and irresistible honesty. The journalistic notes Fahmi Howeidi
scribbled down in his notepad about his interviews with the young
(and not so young) students and their contemporaries - though brief
- are quite laden with gossip and information. Taliban only
partially sates the reader's hunger to communicate with the horror
which shaped the sad life of modern Afghanistan. At the heart of
this unforgettable work of humane understanding is the ablution that
seems to absolve the Arabs (who are the keepers of the Word and of
Civilisation) from the guilt of taciturnity as the world is breaking
up around them. The root of the tragic tension between the various
profit-seeking tribal chiefs (c.f. Rulers of the Arabian side of oil
rich Gulf) remains as inaccessible as the peaks of the Hindo Kush
where once dragons and other fantastical monsters dwelled. Although
lacking in literary style and imagination, Taliban is a godsend for
those individuals seeking a quick fix through Faith, history's
Paramount way of thinking. Fahmi Howeidi's easy acceptance of the
Northern Nation States' proclamation that the Path of Civilisation
changed during their age of 'Enlightenment!' when supposedly their
scientists and philosophers attempted the virgin heights of
knowledge is most alarming. Such falsehood if adhered to negates
Islam, Christianity and the Past. Simply, there never was a
Renaissance in those countries prior to the 11th century: previously
they were NOT part of the civilised Centre. Slavic and Germanic
aristocracies consciously took up Christianity as a quick route into
civilisation. Faith had never infused down into the daily routine of
laity. Worse still God, has nothing to do with anything Nation
States plan: their terminology is vile lies - e.g. there are no
terrorists, only paid soldiers and volunteer freedom fighters; no
campaigns of terror, only wars.
